Kitui County Government Spearheads Agricultural Revolution by Empowering Farmers Through Technology Integration and Cooperative Support On Thursday, January 25, 2024, the Kitui County Government initiated a commendable effort to identify and support dedicated farmers across the county. Dr. Stephen Mbaya, the CECM for Agriculture and Livestock, underscored the county’s commitment during a visit to Jackson Muendo, a dryland farmer engaged in fish and horticulture farming in Itoloni village, Migwani Ward. Dr. Stephen emphasized the county’s dedication to empowering farmers through technology integration. He highlighted the significance of training farmers in adopting modern technologies to enhance efficiency, minimize post-harvest losses, and secure better market prices for their products. “Our goal is to equip farmers with the knowledge and tools for more efficient and profitable agricultural practices. Embracing technology can significantly improve both the quality and quantity of their produce,” stated Dr. Stephen. The team also visited Kimanzi Munyambu, a dairy farmer affiliated with the Mwiwe Cooperative society, which received national support for a pasteurizer and cooler. The County government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, provides continuous training and regular follow-ups on dairy and pasture establishment. Joseph Mulyu, a farmer specializing in sunflower, sorghum, and apiary in Nguutani ward, was also part of the visit, reflecting the county’s comprehensive approach to supporting various agricultural ventures.
