Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF)

The Embassy of the United States of America in South Africa has partnered with the Africa Women Development and Entrepreneurship Online Forum(AWIEF)( www.AWIEForum.org)to carry out the 2020-2021 Academy for Females Business Owners (AWE) South Africa program. Now in its 2nd year, another 125 female business owners will be chosen across the country for a chance to receive virtual and in-person training and mentorship sessions for 8 months.

“AWE is a great opportunity for females entrepreneurs throughout South Africa to acquire university-level business and management training, enhance their networks, and grow as entrepreneurs.” said Embassy Public Affairs Officer Maureen Mimnaugh. She kept in mind that “particularly in a post-COVID world, the tools for effective entrepreneurship will be more crucial than ever, and this program aims to support women in a recuperating economy of innovation.”

AWE is an effort of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) as part of the White House-led Women’s Global Development and Success (W-GDP) Effort which intends to empower 50 million ladies worldwide by 2025 to meet their financial potential, with the objective of creating conditions for increased stability, security, and prosperity for all. Presently executed in more than 50 countries, WONDER supports the growth of females business owners by equipping them with the useful skills, resources, mentorship, and networks required to develop sustainable services and business. WONDER is centered around DreamBuilder, an online training platform for females’s entrepreneurship established by the Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management in collaboration with the global copper mining business Freeport-McMoRan.

Irene Ochem, AWIEF creator and ceo, stated “We are excited that the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria has actually partnered with AWIEF to execute this crucial program customized for women’s economic empowerment. Taking part in the WONDER program will not only assist the picked 125 female business owners, but will likewise benefit their families, their neighborhoods, and the financial development of South Africa”.
