When the UBI Global team conceived the idea for a study to examine the effects of the pandemic on the global innovation ecosystem, we wanted a support partner to complement the analysis of the past with a future-forward vision of the global innovation ecosystem. We are thrilled to announce that District 2020 is the support partner for the Triumph of Innovation study, report, and event. Meet District 2020

District 2020 is a human-centric future city that provides everything that people and businesses need to thrive. As a ‘city of firsts,’ it will be a global hub for innovation, that brings together an inclusive and diverse community and connects future sectors and technologies; to create a more resilient, smarter, and sustainable urban environment.

Following the six months of the World Expo, District 2020 will re-purpose over 80% of the built infrastructure into an integrated mixed-use community to work, live and explore. As a future city that places people at the center of its design, District 2020’s environment has been purposely shaped to encourage wellbeing, sustainability, and balance. 

Expo 2020 Dubai

Expo 2020’s main theme is, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future,” and encompasses three sub-themes; Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. Expo 2020 is the first World Expo to be held in the MENA and SA region, giving the world an opportunity to access the experiences and interactions of the future. More than 190 countries are participating with their own pavilions on a site that covers 4.3 square kilometers (1,083 acres).

An estimated 25 million people will visit Expo 2020 between October 1, 2021, and March of 2022. District 2020 will be home to a purpose-driven community that includes Fortune 500 companies, budding young enterprises, entrepreneurs, SME’s, startups, government, academia, R&D. Through its physical and digital infrastructure, District 2020 will be a place to Connect. Create. Innovate.

Triumph of Innovation Event

The Triumph of Innovation impact study will result in a report, which the UBI Global team will release during a hybrid in-person and virtual event at Expo 2020, the eventual home of District 2020. During the event, District 2020 and innovation thought leaders from Dubai and around the world will welcome our community both in person and virtually through a series of keynotes and panel discussions on the future of innovation.

During the Triumph of Innovation event, the world will learn the key outcomes of the study and the transformations that took place around the world among business incubators and accelerators, and corporate innovation teams as they strove to nurture successful startups through a global pandemic. We will also recognize the most compelling, inspiring stories of successful entrepreneurs and innovation shared by study participants.  More information on the Triumph of Innovation event on December 8, 2021, will be announced in the coming weeks.

Right now, there is an amazing opportunity to be among the first to apply to participate in District 2020’s global innovation hub. Scale2Dubai is District 2020’s global entrepreneurship program that offers startups and small businesses, with a proven track record in their countries, an opportunity to scale to Dubai. More than a startup opportunity, Scale2Dubai is welcoming incubators and accelerators into the program as partners.

The program provides a soft landing for entrepreneurs and businesses to set up in District 2020’s ecosystem and an opportunity to benefit from being part of a world-class innovation hub. District 2020 will play an active role in facilitating connections between the program participants, Fortune 500 companies, incubator and accelerator programs, and funding opportunities.
