UiTM Electrical Engineering Lecturer who specializes on Innovation-Based Sensor Projects Receives the Newton’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowship
Associate Professor Dr Wan Fazlida Hanim Abdullah, a lecturer from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia was selected to be among the top 14 recipients from Malaysia for the ‘Leaders in Innovation Fellowships’ (LIF) programme. LIF is run by the Royal Academy of Engineering and funded by the United Kingdom (UK) Government’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Newton Fund.
The main aim of Newton Fund programmes are to support the economic development and social welfare of countries through a variety of science and innovation activities. LIF is supported by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), the partner in Malaysia for UK Newton Fund. The Fellowship brings together emerging leaders in the global innovation community, who are interested in entrepreneurship and have an engineering-based innovation that has the potential to contribute to the social and economic development of their country.
Dr. Wan Fazlida is a member of the Integrated Sensors Research Group in developing sensor systems and interfacing circuits. She has been an active supervisor for undergraduate talent development through innovation-based sensor projects in the Innovate Malaysia Design Competition, consistently winning top technology tracks and design challenges awards representing UiTM for almost 7 years in a row from 2013-2019. She is also the Head of the ‘Maker Talent for Digital Innovation’ (MTDI) Research Group that supports industry-academia-community volunteerism collaboration in promoting innovative thinking among school community.
LIF brings 17 Newton Fund partner countries recipients to follow an intensive training course on innovation in London, UK. We are proud that Dr Wan Fazlida has been selected to attend the 6th cohort training in London scheduled from16th-28th February 2020.
