UNESCO will launch a publication titled, “Mapping research and innovation in the Republic of Mozambique” on 18 February 2021 between 10am and 11:30am on zoom.
The publication which is part of the UNESCO Global Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Instruments (GO-SPIN) series on country profiles in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy, will be launched with the outstanding support of the Islamic Development Bank (BIsD) in partnership with UNESCO and Mozambique.
The launching ceremony is an important occasion to reflect on conclusions and recommendations aimed at promoting the development of STI in Mozambique, in particular to reflect on the review of this Science and Technology Policy and the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy in Mozambique, and its contribution to the achievement of the SDGs.
Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) have become a driving force to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and face the challenges of global crises, such as the current pandemic COVID-19. The formulation of effective STI policies is critical in addressing the main challenges to achieving the 2030 Agenda.
The lack of accurate information, adequate indicators, and the capacity to analyse and monitor governance policies and instruments is a major development challenge for countries. The Global Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Instruments (GO-SPIN) aims to fill this information gap by providing important information on STI governing bodies, legal structures, policy instruments and a series of long-term indicators for analysis of evidence-based policies, project studies, and forecasting. It is within this context that the UNESCO GO-SPIN supported the mapping of research and innovation in Mozambique that result in the publication that will be launched.
