The United States needs to improve the transfer of technology from federally funded R&D to the private sector to promote U.S. economic growth and national security, according to a new report by the National Institute for Standards and Technology.
NIST Releases Tech Transfer Recommendations According to Mark Skinner of SSTI, “Describing the 125+ page document outlining the administration’s thoughts regarding the movement of federal R&D into market use as a “discussion guide, not a policy document.” Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Walter Copan announced the report’s release April 24.
Spring Eagleton Science and Politics Workshop Governing Science: National and State Perpsectives Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) and New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Upendra J. Chivukula spoke at the spring semester Eagleton Science and Politics Workshop on Friday, April 19th. Natural and social scientists came together from various departments across Rutgers University for the interdisciplinary workshop that focused on the intersection of governing and science.
$1.5M in Grants from Innovation and Research Fellowship Program The New Jersey Innovation and Research Fellowship Program will provide $1.5 million in grants for pre- and post-Ph.D. research fellows, according to Governor Murphy. The program will support technological research and innovation in New Jersey, while helping Ph.D. candidates and recent doctoral degree recipients advance their research at New Jersey science and technology companies.
NJIT@JerseyCity – NJIT Expands to Jersey City According to Brian Malina, “Starting fall 2019, New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) will offer part-time and full-time graduate-level programs in data science at a location just steps from the Exchange Place PATH station in the waterfront district of Jersey City.”
NJ STEM Education Startup Wins $30,000 and 1st Place at TCNJ Mayo Business Plan Competition Code the Future (codethefuture.io), a science, technology, education, and math (STEM) education startup run by students at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), won 1st place and $30,000 at the Mayo Business Plan Competition. The two-time award-winning team runs robotics and coding programs for students in grades 2 through 8 with a mission to increase the number of STEM graduates in the US. Their programs include Robot Engineers, Music Engineers, and Smart Car Developers.
The 2019 NOL Program Application is Now Open Qualified, unprofitable technology or biotechnology companies based in New Jersey can sell a percentage of net operating losses (NOL) and research and development (R&D) tax credits for cash through a program offered by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. Under the State’s NOL Program, net operating losses and R&D tax credits may be sold to unrelated profitable companies for the purpose of offsetting their tax liabilities. Historically, the average market sale price has been around 92.5 cents on the dollar and all companies that have been approved have been able to successfully sell credits.

NJII and Pall Corporation Form Agreement to Advance Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), a New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Corporation, has signed an Industry Participation Agreement with Pall Corporation (Pall) to support the development of its BioPharmaceutical Innovation iLab. The partnership will support two key Centers at NJII that will advance the manufacturing of new cell and gene therapies: the Cell and Gene Therapy Development Center and the Center of Advanced Biologic Manufacturing.
