Unpacking the Wipro/Google Cloud alliance: Joint innovation for AI excellence - SiliconANGLE

Wipro Ltd. is a longstanding professional IT services company that has, like other forward-thinking organizations, embraced the transformative wave of artificial intelligence earlier rather than later.

One key step in that process is its partnership with Google LLC. Alongside a business unit dedicated solely to the alliance, Wipro now boasts 600 level-3 certified generative AI practitioners, according to Gagan Reen (pictured, left), global chief technology officer for cloud, gen AI and digital at Wipro Ltd.

“I would say Wipro’s investment into FullStride Cloud is the catalyst of the birth of the Google Business unit because three years ago it did not exist,” Gagan explained. “As an output of that, we now have 250,000 employees at Wipro that are AI-centric … and 50,000 of them are trained on gen AI. Out of those 50,000, if you go towards the Google Business unit, we have 600 level-3 certified practitioners.”

Reen and Blair Stewart (right), head of Google partnership and market development in the Americas at Wipro Ltd., spoke with theCUBE industry analysts Rob Strechay and  Dustin Kirkland at the Google Cloud Next event, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Wipro’s strides in AI, particularly in regards to Google. (* Disclosure below.)

More on the tie-in

On its own, Wipro has shown a real intent in harnessing AI, chiefly through its recently-announced $1 billion outlay and the subsequent formulation of the Wipro AI360 ecosystem.

With Google, the company was an early RAMP partner and has leaned on several Google Cloud underpinnings to better serve its own customers, according to Stewart. Those efforts earned Wipro a Google Cloud Specialization Partner of the Year award in 2021 — the second time in a row.

“We’ve been very fortunate that Google has leaned in with us and actually brought their cloud value team,” Blair noted. “And so the customer value team and to help us drive that case for change, that case for value, and take it forward from there.”
