WhatsApp clarifies on privacy policy again, said it won’t affect privacy of messages | CPO INNOVATION

After facing a lot of backlash from users over WhatApp’s new terms of service and privacy policies, the Facebook-owned instant messaging app has now issued a clarification that your privacy won’t be affected if you don’t use its two optional features.

WhatsApp has said that it offers end-to-end encryption for personal messages to all users and neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can read your messages or hear your calls with your friends and family.

As per the company, the privacy policy update will only affect the messages sent to business accounts on WhatsApp, which it adds is an optional feature. While Facebook is not going to view your personal chats with family and friends, it will use your chats with businesses to show more ads related to your business on Facebook, Instagram and other platforms from the company.

“We want to address some rumors and be 100% clear we continue to protect your private messages with end-to-end encryption,” WhatsApp said in an official statement.

The messaging app had alerted users to a new privacy policy effective February 8, that expressly said that it will share user data with its parent company Facebook. Users earlier had an opt-out option, which won’t be available now.
