Toyota is preparing to re-enter the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment with its new compact SUV. This will replace the old Urban Cruiser which was a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Now, Toyota has registered a new trademark for its upcoming compact SUV.
What does the new trademark represent?
Toyota has registered a new trademark known as Urban Cruiser Taisor. The Urban Cruiser Taisor will be the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. However, the carmaker wants to replace the old Urban Cruiser with the new Taisor. With this launch, Toyota will mark its presence in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment in India.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor: Details
Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki showcased the Fronx at Auto Expo 2023. The hatchback styled compact SUV has grabbed the attention of the audience with its new design. Unlike the other compact SUVs, the design of Fronx looks youthful and vibrant with a sporty stance.
Taking inspiration from Fronx, Toyota is working on its own version with a unique design. We expect that Toyota will unveil its own version of Fronx in the coming weeks. The Taisor will get a unique design with some elements of Hyryder. With new elements, the Taisor will stand out from the crowd.
Meanwhile, the interior of Taisor will be loaded with features. The compact SUV will get a 9-inch infotainment system, Arkamys Sound System, Connected Car Tech, etc. Also, the features list will include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, a heads-up display, cruise control, rear AC vents, keyless entry, etc.
Engine, Gearbox, Pricing, and the Competition
Like the Fronx, the Taisor will also get 2 engine options. The 1.2L K-Series petrol engine makes 89hp and 113nm of output. This engine can be had with a 5-Speed Manual and AMT Gearbox.
However, the higher variants will get the powerful 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. This engine produces 99hp of power and 147nm of torque. This engine will get the options of the 5-Speed Manual and 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox.
Meanwhile, the price range of the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor will be Rs.7.5 Lakhs to Rs.13.5 Lakhs Ex-showroom. After the launch, the Urban Cruiser Taisor will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon.
