GlassBuild Exhibitors Bring Centuries of Innovation – USGlass Magazine & USGNN Headline News
If anyone skipped the first day of GlassBuild America to stay home for trick or treating, they showed up in droves on day two. The second morning brought a traffic jam of attendees down the escalators to the trade show floor of the Georgia World Congress Center. Once there, attendees were greeted by exhibitors showcasing products, developments and more.
Jansen AG, though a 100-year-old Swiss company, is a new face in the U.S. The company recently announced its new North American headquarters in New York. Robert Miller, CEO and head of sales for Jansen America, said the company began as a steel business, and in 2021 sold that part of the operations to focus on architectural steel.
“Steel generally has a 3:1 ratio with aluminum, meaning it’s three times stronger than aluminum,” he said. Miller said architects like it because it allows for creativity in shapes and sizes.
“Steel is also slower to get cold and hot, so it has natural thermal capabilities,” said Miller.
Jansen offers a variety of standard system products, which Miller likened to LEGO pieces, as they can easily connect together, as well as custom solutions.
Virginia Glass and Mirror is another company with a 100-year history—110 in fact. The company exhibited at the show to celebrate this milestone anniversary. John Korff, president and CEO, said valuing their people and customers has contributed to this substantial history.
“We take care of our customers and do what we say we are going to do,” he said. “Relationships matter.”
McGrory Glass brought a range of its products to the show. Chris McGrory, CEO, said glass for safety, security and fire protection are highly in demand due to code changes and developments. After opening a new facility in 2022, the company has now brought its production of fire and security products in-house. McGrory also has a new switchable privacy glass product called Electraview Zero. The key difference, compared to other switchable products, McGrory said, is that with this one, when the power is on, the glass is opaque. It can be used in a range of architectural applications, including medical interiors, for transparency and privacy.
GlassBuild America 2023 closes on Thursday, Nov. 2. Next year, the event moves to Dallas, Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
