Innovation a true export for the Capital Region
Research and development services exports supported some 888 jobs in the Capital Region in 2017, up 7.4 percent from the previous year, according to the 2018 Export Monitor released in April by the Brookings Institution. Overall, exports from the Capital Region increased in 2017 by 2.6 percent, the Brookings Institution said. The innovation-driven economy contributed to most of that gain, according to the Center for Economic Growth. During the past 20 years, the region, with the support of the state of New York, has spent billions of dollars building a world-class R & D infrastructure, CEG President and CEO Andrew Kennedy said.
