Pizza box innovation earns award recognition | Packaging Scotland

Metsä Board is celebrating after being selected as one of the 2024 WorldStar awards winners for an ultra light pizza box concept developed with Adara Pakkaus and other industry experts. The solution, made of Metsä Board Natural WKL Bright, is said to use ‘considerably less’ material than traditional pizza boxes without compromising rigidity, function or print quality. Metsä explained the box was about 38% lighter and, according to the life cycle analysis, its carbon footprint was up to 50% lower than those of traditional solutions made of recycled fibre. Packaging manufacturer Adara Pakkaus produced the corrugated material and printed the pizza box, with Marvaco supplying the flexo printing plates. The visual outlook was designed by Futupack. Researcher and expert on ECG expanded gamut printing, Dr Kai Lankinen, provided input on the graphic design, pre-press, and flexographic printing requirements.
