Syntronic has been selected as a key member of Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) Demonstration Zone. Launched this month, the OVIN Demonstration Zone is a platform for testing, piloting, and showcasing innovations in the automotive sector.

Solutions that will be showcased include connected and autonomous vehicle (C/AV) technologies, shared and integrated mobility solutions, robotics, and electric vehicle solutions.

Supporting innovation

The Demonstration Zone allows new technology to be tested and showcased in a real-world urban environment with end users, including residents, local businesses, and employees working in the community. The project is carried out in partnership with the City of Markham and the City of Vaughn.

“We are proud to be a part of this key initiative by the city of Markham and Vaughn in supporting innovation. With our decades of experience in helping automotive OEMs develop new hardware and software solutions we are looking forward to support companies in leveraging the site to bring new technologies to market” says Todd Conroy, Director & Site Lead Toronto at Syntronic R&D Canada.

The project aims at providing a living-lab for promoting collaboration to advance automotive, mobility and smart city technologies that can improve the quality of life of residents, while generating new economic opportunities for Markham and Ontario-based companies.

In partnering with companies like Syntronic, Rogers, GM, Honda and more, the zone aims to help different stakeholders solve mobility challenges, enable sustainable transportation solutions, and stimulate the economy.

“The OVIN Demonstration Zone will showcase the future of transportation innovation, providing an exciting opportunity for companies to safely test their solutions in the real world. It will support the advancement of automotive and smart mobility solutions to improve the way we move people and goods,” says Steven Del Duca, Mayor of the City of Vaughan.

Markham, where Syntronic’s Greater Toronto Area Design Center and the new Demonstration Zone are located, is increasingly gaining recognition as a growth-focused technology hub.

“Markham is already leading the way in automotive innovation and the addition of the Demonstration Zone furthers our commitment to advance the future of sustainable mobility technologies,” says Frank Scarpitti,Mayor of the City of Markham.
